Back in December 2012, I added a cute wintery snowy-tree header to my journal. I thought, I'll leave that on over the winter, and then I'll put a nice spring one on later, and then a summer one, etc. Of course, 25 months later, the snowy trees were still there /o\
BUT now I have a new header and it is very exciting! Courtesy of
christinaa88 :) My journal feels all fresh and rejuvenated, and it looks like it's looking forward to the new episode of Suits in five and a half days as much as I am! YAY :D
Which reminded me, I have a whole load of new shows in my heart and I haven't babbled about them on here o.O So, here we go.
Suits
I started this last January, and wasn't too impressed at first. I was all: meh, I was promised this was just like White Collar, but there is no Neal or Peter or hats so I'm not pleased. But then, sometime after the first few episodes, I realised I'd fallen totally in love with Harvey, and Harvey/Donna, and Harvey/Mike, and even Louis! And now I think it might be the best thing left on TV. But I can't really find the fandom for it. There's some old fics on LJ, a mostly-abandoned kink meme, and some stuff on Ao3/ff.net, but apparently most of the action takes place on tumblr, and I'm just...not doing that. Why is there not an awesome h/c community here? I think I've been spoiled by the White Collar fandom.
Chasing Life
Oh it's adorable! I thought a show about leukemia would be depressing, but I tried it anyway because I saw the picture of Italia Ricci and had an instant crush, and ohhh it's so lovely :) And shippy. WATCH EET.
How To Get Away With Murder
Eee. It's smart and sexy and the mid-series finale totally wrong-footed me, and SERIOUSLY, CONNOR. He is so hot and deliciously sarcastic. And I am very much shipping Connor/Oliver.
Scorpion
Hee, so cute, and preposterous. And Paige/Walter! And Happy/Toby! And alll the daddy issues. It's total escapist fluff and I love it.
Faking It
This is awesome and a lot of fun. I love how it's actually exploring bisexuality instead of just using the 'you must be either straight or gay' thesis that most shows adopt. And Shane and Lauren are such great characters. Also, I might be in love with Katie Stevens, especially when she wears a corset.
Jane the Virgin
I turned off the first episode after ten minutes, once I realised what was about to happen to Jane (I hadn't heard the plot beforehand) and was appalled. But then a few months later, I'd heard so many good things about it that I gave it another chance, and it is really lovely and beautiful and funny and inspiring, even if I still have some problems with how the original issue is dealt with. I love watching Gina Rodriguez too, she is just mesmerising.
Also, last summer there was Finding Carter and The Last Ship, both of which have to be mentioned because a) they were brilliant, and b) they got renewed, which is kinda shocking for shows I like! I was so excited to see Eric Dane in a lead role :D
I'm also enjoying Eye Candy, Girlfriends Guide to Divorce, Stalker, Red Band Society, Mulaney (sooo bad at first but now it's pretty funny) and I've started watching series 2 of Broadchurch, despite not seeing series 1, because it has Eve Myles. Evieee. And David Tennant. And I keep expecting Barrowman to pop up and say GWEN! DOCTOR! FOUND YOU!
Wow, I watch a lot of TV. OK, so squee with me if you watch any of these too :)

I've been watching Scorpion too, and I had to laugh at your assessment, because the word preposterous fits the show so well. LOL
I've seen the first two or three episodes of How to Get Away with Murder, and I plan to watch more as I find the time. I did enjoy it... I just watch so much television, it's hard to fit it all in.
I'm watching Stalker as well. I think I have a thing for Dylan McDermott. I'm sure he'd make a good spanker, no matter what character he's playing. LOL

Date: 2015-01-23 04:10 pm (UTC)I tried Suits a couple of times, and it just didn't do anything for me. Like Covert Affairs, it was a show that I thought I ought to like but just didn't.
I saw the pilot ep of Scorpion at Comic-Con last summer and I guess the preposterousness level was just too high for me. That or the characters were too over the top? TBH, I was really surprised when it became such a big hit, but tons of people really like it.
Jane the Virgin is on my list of "shows I really must try out." WB re-ran the 1st two eps the week before new episodes started up again, and I have them on my DVR.
I also heartily approve of most anything with David Tennant. :-)

Date: 2015-01-23 04:46 pm (UTC)Awww, I know the pain of looking for a fandom and not really finding it. Good luck with that!
I watched the first three seasons of Suits, I think? I stopped watching about the time Mike was away from the firm and working the case against Harvey. I liked the show, but I didn't love it - my favorites were Jessica, Rachel and Louis, and I didn't really find any appeal in Harvey's character. (Also, they killed off Mike's Grandma. Bad Suits!) In the end, I realized I just didn't like it well enough to give it so much of my time.
I saw the promo How to get away with murder. What is it like? I thought it looked interesting on a first glance, and I'm currently searching for a new show to watch, since WC and Legend of Korra ended the same week and I'm down to only Castle.
Never heard of "Faking it", what's that? It would be nice to see something that actually explores bisexuality (just a month ago, my friend told me "but that doesn't exist, right? You can either like one or the other..." Meh.)
I need to find something new to watch; preferably something smart, fun and not too depressing with sexy capable women (and men). Anything like that on your list? :)

Date: 2015-01-23 05:06 pm (UTC)Ah yes I like Dylan too, and he definitely would! I was just thinking that the other day, and trying to figure out how it could come to pass! I think I'd like to see a Jack/Janice scene... maybe if Janice recklessly goes after Perry to help Beth? I'm kinda shipping Jack/Janice romantic stylez too. And Jack/Beth. Just want more Dylan sexiness :D

Date: 2015-01-23 05:11 pm (UTC)Aww sorry Suits didn't do it for you. I haven't tried Covert Affairs yet, I've heard mixed things about it!
Haha I can definitely see why the Scorpion preposterousness might be too much for some people! I mostly just ignore the ridiculous plots and enjoy the amusing character interactions! I actually didn't think it would be that successful either, but I'm glad it'll probably get renewed :)
Yay Tennant! \o/ He is all grumpy in Broadchurch and it makes me laugh :D

Date: 2015-01-23 05:27 pm (UTC)Aww I know, killing off Mike's Grandma was not acceptable! Poor Mike :(
How To Get Away With Murder is definitely worth checking out. It's got very capable and sexy female lawyers/law students (and one very hot male law student!) and it has a case of the week where the main female lawyer and the law students defend a client, but it also has an overarching storyline where the group of law students have committed murder. It flashes back and forth in time (but not confusingly) and it has lots of interesting mystery elements. It's a bit dark, but not toooo dark. I would try it, it starts off strong so you only really need to watch one episode to see if you like it :)
It's amazing how many people think bisexuality isn't a real thing :( Faking It is a 20 min dramedy, it's really light and fun. It's about two high school girls who end up sort of accidentally pretending to be lesbians to become noticed, but then one of them realises that she is perhaps not faking it so much. It's nice because there's a lot of openness and exploration to it, and it seems to be getting better and better as it goes on :) (Also yay that you asked about it cos now I get to use my new Faking It icon for the first time! \o/)
So yeah, I'd definitely recommend those two, and probably Jane the Virgin which is lighthearted and has super strong central female characters. Let me know if you watch/like them :D

Date: 2015-01-23 06:58 pm (UTC)Apparently they planted hints back then which everyone dismissed as red herrings, and now suddenly they are important. The way the series ended, I did not believe it possible to add a season 2 to that, and yet they succeed and make it more creepy every week. Absolutely awesome and after each episode you are hooked and want to see more.
Seeing only half of the puzzle must be confusing? Why not go back and watch it all unfold? It's really awesome. And it has David Tennant as well ;)
Stay away from Gracepoint though. Even though that also has David Tennant... It's the American version.
Speaking of John Barrowman... have you heard about that super duper Torchwood convention in May in London? Miracle Day 2, this time again with Eve, Kai, Gareth and Naoko, plus James Marsters, plus Owen Teale, plus John Barrowman! It's going to be epic.

Date: 2015-01-23 07:28 pm (UTC)Ohhh I have heard about it! And I got the Starfury website up the other day intending to book a ticket, and then I realised it's in London instead of Birmingham, which puts hundreds of pounds onto the cost for me (I live near Birmingham) :( I don't think I can afford it as I'm trying to save up for Comic Con at Sea, though I'm gonna see if I can work something out.
Speaking of! Do you fancy Comic Con at Sea? It's got Kai and Gareth and James Marsters!

Date: 2015-01-23 07:41 pm (UTC)It was indeed scene by scene re-enactment, but then I wonder how they managed ten episodes when Broadchurch only had 8? I haven't watched all of it yet (I do watch the first season in German with my parents right now and then want to do a real comparison) but I have been told that some things are a bit different, people, scenes get played more up or down. So it might be indeed interesting to see both.
There were also those that were not happy with David's American accent. Plus, of course, I think his acting might be different, with a different female actress opposite him? Also, the landscape is very important in Broadchurch. And the music.
And the end is different. In Broadchurch, Joe confessed and the boy was not involved. But who knows, that might change yet also.
Yeah, they had to move to London because in Birmingham is a Supernatural convention at the same weekend. But I think they chose the date in May deliberatedly to get John this time. As the Arrow filming will be over by then, yet his concert tour will not have started yet. So it was the best weekend. A train from Birmingham to London really can't cost that much? Or do you mean because of hotel? We are not in the convention hotel, we are in the IBIS down the street, which is cheaper.
If you want to go gold you should hurry, only 10 left. Plenty of regular though.
I'm afraid the Comic Con at Sea is a bit out of my price range, also it has lots of guests I don't know at all (I really don't like multifandom stuff) and since I see all of them at that other con now, I'll give it a miss! But it sounds very nice indeed.
I am also very sad to miss the City of Heroes which is the weekend after Miracle Day 2 and has a lot of Arrow guests, which I have never met before - but I just can't do it, as I am also going to Ipswich and Cardiff for the JB concerts at the end of May and I can't fly back and forward every weekend LOL Bad timing.
Up until Monday I was wondering whether I had chosen the wrong convention - then John got announced out of the blue - after having told us in Glasgow at the stage door he wouldn't come - so now we are all at cloud 9 and no intention to come down any time soon ;)
Also, last year they said we shall write a script to bring back Ianto and Tosh and Owen and they will read it out! I hope they choose mine, I would love to see that. I was wondering who would read Jack then, but that problem is now solved.
Really, don't miss it.

Aww two JB concerts, that sounds awesome :) You'll be spending a lot of time in the UK!

I could start a comm I guess, but it looks like there's a load of comms sitting empty already. I want challenges! And fics! And all the things! /o\

Date: 2015-01-24 04:11 pm (UTC)Gold tickets are sold out now, only regular left.
When you go to Kai Owen's website, there is the address of his webmaster: webmaster@kaiowen.com
That's where you send the script, but the deadline is end of January already! So only one week left. And then you need to come, to see them act it out hopefully. I really had John's voice in my ear when writing my Jack lines.
Did you get the message I sent regarding Broadchurch?

Date: 2015-01-24 04:27 pm (UTC)Ah ok, one week is not long enough for me to write a script haha! Good luck with yours :)
I've just read the message, thank you very much for the offer! I do have Dropbox but I don't think having watched all of Gracepoint that I could manage to watch all of Broadchurch now hehe :) But thank you!

Date: 2015-01-24 04:35 pm (UTC)This is my picture from that con: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/35188.html
I did only one and only when I saw the pictures of all the other girls I realized that John was doing many funny poses - I had no idea. So the next time, in Peterborough, I made up for it ;)
I understand. Well, if you ever get the urge to see it after all, you know where to find me!
