Shifting Light
She loved it.
As soon as Rhys gave it to her, she adored it. In quiet moments, she tilted her hand back and forth, watching it sparkle in the shifting light.
She showed it to Tosh, and Owen, and Ianto. Later, she showed them again.
It fitted her finger perfectly; it felt right.
Then Jack returned, unexpectedly.
His fingertips slid down her arm. He was seconds away from feeling it, and it would stop him saying the words she was finally so close to hearing.
His thumb brushed the top of it, and his breath caught.
Suddenly, she hated it.
