30 Days of Awesome Ladies - Day 4

Day 4: Favourite Female Character in a DRAMA show
Meredith Grey (Grey's Anatomy)

I don't watch many 'straight' dramas that don't also fit into another genre, so I've gone with a medical drama - after all, nobody can argue that Grey's isn't dramatic! I have to admit that when I first started watching Grey's at the very beginning, I wasn't that into Meredith - I didn't think she was particularly attractive or interesting and I didn't understand why everyone fancied her! A couple of years later I bought the DVDs of the first 2 seasons and did a re-watch, which firstly reminded me how brilliant the show is and inspired me to catch up with it, and secondly made me realise that actually, Meredith is pretty damn awesome.
Meredith describes herself as 'dark and twisty', and that's a pleasant change from the peppy characters you tend to get with American TV. She's introspective, damaged, motivated by past criticism from a no-longer-lucid mother and reluctant to let anyone in. She's difficult. She's also hopeful, clever, loving, loyal, ambitious and a good friend. She's the kind of girl I would like to have as a best friend, the kind of person that, as Christina once mentions, you could count on to come and help you move a body after you'd committed murder. And we could all do with one of those.
