...I went for short and trivial ;)
I have had my first mince pie of the season! \o/ (Not my first of the year though, because obviously I ate a whole lot of post-Christmas ones in January!)
It was delicious, even though I microwaved it a bit long and nearly burnt my mouth! I'd been wondering about making my own this year, but I'm not sure there's any need when shop-bought ones are so yummy. Next time I will buy some of the ones with icing on :D

here you can at least look at the pics: first batch - honey and gingerbread, second batch, cheesecake, third batch - poppy pies and cakes, 4th catch - yeast based cakes... then cookies and whatever else you can think of, LOL :D

If we ever have a UK WC meetup we can have mince pies :D

Date: 2015-09-27 09:17 pm (UTC)♥♥ Any excuse to whip out the Miranda gif. ;)
I think I get confused that sometimes I heard mince pie and sometimes mincemeat pie--which I associate with savory pies... not that savory pies are really a thing here. And so then I wondered, well, what the hell is a mince? And then I saw Sweeney Todd and after that, I've just given up on ever sorting it.
I've never tried, I've never even seen one I don't think. But then again, pie of any variety is not really my jam.

Date: 2015-09-27 11:02 pm (UTC)People used to use actual ground up meat for mincemeat, but now it's dried fruit, sugar, spices and alcohol in very sweet pastry. Miranda would approve :D

Date: 2015-09-28 09:50 pm (UTC)I can't believe how many people have never had them, but then I guess there's all sorts of yummy American Christmas foods that I've never tried either!

Date: 2015-09-29 12:45 am (UTC)They aren’t that common over here, unless I just live in a secluded part of the country (Which I do. Sometimes I feel like I live in Radiator Springs from Cars.). I’ve known about them pretty much all of my life, though. I used to have a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer book when I was a kid and it showed him eating a slice of mince pie in one part of it. That’s where I first heard of them, oddly as it sounds. lol! I was curious about it for the longest time until I finally looked it up and learned what it actually was.
Yeah, we probably do have Christmas foods over here that you've never tried. Sadly, a lot of traditional Christmas goodies I grew up on have long since become extinct over the years. =( Now, whenever Christmas rolls around, I always get cravings for treats I can't find anymore and only have memories to look back on.

Date: 2015-09-28 08:20 pm (UTC)The only reason I have made my own previously is because they're super nice all warm straight from the oven - I had never thought to microwave them.

Date: 2015-09-28 10:00 pm (UTC)They are nice microwaved, though the pastry does go a bit soft!
I do like the idea of making my own, though if I do it will probably be with shop bought pastry and shop bought mincemeat haha!

Date: 2015-09-29 09:49 pm (UTC)Same here! I always try to keep it up for as long as possible, usually to the end of January. Traditionally, Christmas doesn't end until January 6th anyway, so I use that as an excuse. lol! =P Since my cousin now lives in Norway and has been telling me about customs over there, I've learned that it's not unusual to leave Christmas decorations up long into January, since they still follow the January 6th tradition.
